About the Park
Skadar Lake National Park was established in 1983 and represents one of the most significant natural areas of Montenegro. The lake stretches along the border between Montenegro and Albania, with the Montenegrin part protected as a national park. It is characterized by vast wetlands, channels, water lily meadows, and dense reeds that form a complex and exceptionally valuable ecosystem. The aquatic landscape constantly changes with the seasons, offering different scenes in spring, summer, and autumn.
The special value of Lake Skadar lies in its biodiversity, especially in its rich birdlife. The lake is an important resting and nesting area for migratory birds, as well as a permanent habitat for many rare species. In addition to its natural wealth, the area around the lake is rich in traditional fishing villages, vineyards, and archaeological sites. Boat rides, birdwatching, cycling, and exploring cultural monuments make Lake Skadar an ideal destination for lovers of nature, photography, and slow, authentic tourism.
